advancing sustainability

Revitalizing the Hub
The Hub is committed to not only promoting climate action, but also enriching mobility options for people from all walks of life. One crucial aspect the project addresses is the lack of a grocery store, recognizing the need to provide essential convenience for the community. The neighborhood now offers a range of exciting experiences and amenities. From improved transit accessibility to an array of entertainment, dining and shopping options, The Hub has become a vibrant center of activity, breathing new life into the heart of Boston’s West End.

infrastructure improvements

IMPROVING THE PEDESTRIAN EXPERIENCE
Infrastructure advancements, such as widened sidewalks, greatly improve the daily activities of pedestrians in and around The Hub.
CONNECTING THE HUB
The newly constructed foot tunnel to MBTA’s North Station serves The Hub, TD Garden, and the surrounding neighborhoods, creating a direct route for commuters from North Station to the MBTA.
A notable feature of the tunnel is the implementation of sound-dampening technology. This technology has been utilized to effectively reduce noise impacts at the venues.
OPTIMIZING RENEWABLE RESOURCES
The 100K Gallon Rainwater Harvesting System provides renewable water to the cooling towers. This leads to higher energy efficiency and the use of more sustainable and long-lasting components in the cooling towers, which are essential for the building’s HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system. Additionally, the harvesting system reduces waste and maintenance requirements.
AN OPEN-AIR ATMOSPHERE
The Hub is designed with natural ventilation throughout the building. This includes the strategic use of large windows, open balconies, and garage-style doors creating an expansive and open-air atmosphere
INVESTING IN GREEN POWER
The Hub is dedicated to achieving 100% green power usage by 2025. Through various initiatives, significant progress has been made in reducing the environmental impact. The office and residential towers achieved a 63% reduction in water use for irrigation, and a 42% and 37% reduction in water use for fixtures. To support the goal of sustainable practices, active investment in green power has helped effectively offset 35% of anticipated annual electricity use for two years.
The Hub office tower achieved the highest level of LEED Platinum certification, and the residential tower, hotel tower, and ground floor have all achieved LEED Gold.
